Aaaah the apple iphone vs android debate... Before I start I just want to put it out there I am an iphone owner and I love my iphone quite possibly could be IN love with my iphone, however I wouldn't go as far as saying my iphone is my life as some of my friends say. I don't even know why I got an iphone for the first time, none of my friends had it back in the day, I suppose I just thought they were cool. And I think that is the key marketing ploy that apple uses. Their products are 'cool'. I remember in primary school when the department of education must have signed a contract with apple so there were thousands of the new colourful macs distributed throughout the state, we would run into the computer labs hoping to get the best coloured mac before anyone else did. The boring old PCs didn't even get a second look. from there apple had a succession of popular products, the ipod in all its shapes and sizes, then now to the new iphone 4s. I was unaware or too naive to realise how and why apple have become so successful until Ted mentioned it in his lecture, its all about the closed appliances. Apple have cleverly enough ensured that their software, apps etc. only work on the iphone and no others do. There for the revenue stays within the apple company.
to be honest I have not had much or really anything to do with androids, I probably would not even know how to use one, but after the lecture googles android does sound quite smart and useful, but until the love for my iphone fades (which I cannot see happening) I am going to be a loyal and proud iphone user.
Gosh! I remember when our school got all of the colourful Macs as well. We used to absolutly kill each other for the pink one. It wasn’t that long ago that computers were boring – they looked plain, they were bulky and often needed a degree in rocket science to get past the welcome page. Apple changed all that from day one by challenging this perception and bringing to market products that were user friendly, colourful and even fashionable.
